El Bolsón is located 75 miles from Bariloche in Patagonia and is a tiny city surrounded by ancient forests, snow covered peaks and pure bodies of water. Its economy is based on the organic cultivation of the land, handicrafts, the production of candy, beer and tourism.
Although this region is visited by many types of people, El Bolsón is characterized by tourism focused on ecological conscience and respect for nature. The beautiful scenery is both wild and serene and inspires long walks, reflection, rest and the enjoyment of the peace and tranquility that emanate from this place.
During the southern summer typical activities include horseback riding, hiking, rafting or mountain biking on different trails such as el Camino de los Nogales, Nahuelpan Falls, Azul River, Cerrito Amigo and “La Cabeza del Indio” (“Indian Head”). One can also visit the refuges of Cerro Lindo, Hielo Azul, Cerro Piltriquitrón or Cajón del Azul.
Another classic attraction of the region is the Regional Fair, where artisans, producers and artists sell their products at the central plaza to tourists who visit us year after year.
The most important festival in El Bolsón is the National Festival of Lúpulo, which celebrates the harvest every February. Here you can see shows by local and national artists, sporting events, the election of a queen, exhibits of regional products, as well as the traditional regional fair. Entry is free and here you can sample artisan beer and typical foods from El Bolsón.
